A 36-year-old man who was arrested for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend three times at Siya village in the Kavango West region, was on Wednesday denied bail in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court.

Willem Hamatwi made his first court appearance on a charge of attempted murder, before Magistrate Barry Mufana who postponed his case to 10 June 2021 for further police investigations.

It is alleged that Hamatwi, went into his girlfriend's room last Friday and stabbed her three times on the left side of the chest.

She sustained serious injuries and was admitted to the Bunya Health Centre where she is still recovering.

Hamatwi was remanded in custody.

Public prosecutor, Rauna Shinuuandu represented the state.

Meanwhile, 38-year-old Jonas Matheus Kamati was released on warning in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court on the same day, where he appeared on a charge of attempted murder.

Kamati also appeared before Magistrate Mufana.

It is alleged that Kamati assaulted his wife with the handle of a hoe last Saturday at Kehenge village.

She sustained serious injuries and is recovering in the Rundu State Hospital.
