An adult man died instantly in a road accident Tuesday afternoon outside Grootfontein after the pick up vehicle he was operating allegedly overturned and caught fire on the B8 road.

Namibian Police Force (NamPol) spokesperson in the Otjozondjupa Region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha in an interview with Nampa on Thursday said the man burnt beyond recognition.

His identification documents allegedly also burned in the vehicle, said Mbeha.

A 42-year-old male passenger, who was traveling with the deceased, survived the incident with some serious body injuries, added Mbeha.

“The accident happened on Tuesday at about 12h00, approximately 30 kilometres east of Grootfontein,” she said.

The deceased’s close relatives are yet to be informed of his death, while the passenger was still admitted to the Grootfontein State Hospital on Thursday afternoon.

Police investigations in the matter continue.
