A 64-year-old man died at Muroro village in the Kavango East Region on Saturday after he was hit by a truck while trying to cross the Trans-Caprivi highway.

Acting Namibian Police Force Regional Commander, Deputy Commissioner Eino Nambahu on Sunday said the incident occurred at around 21h00, when the Zambian national truck driver who was travelling on the Trans-Caprivi highway hit the deceased identified as Nekaro Mbundu.

‘It is alleged that the driver saw the pedestrian on the shoulder of the road and thought that he was waiting for the truck to pass. As the truck approached closer, the pedestrian allegedly entered the road,’ Nambahu said.

The truck driver could not apply the brakes on time and in the process hit the pedestrian who died on the spot.

His next of kin have been informed and police investigation into the matter continues.
