Windhoek: The Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism (MEFT) has announced new restrictions on shuttle services to Deadvlei within the Namib-Naukluft Park, effective from 01 May 2026. Only two categories of operators will be authorised to provide these services, as part of the ministry's efforts to regulate and control access to one of Namibia's most popular tourist attractions.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the MEFT's public notice stated that the decision is part of its concession agreement. The authorised operators will include Grow Namibia, trading as About Adelt Sossusvlei Management, and registered tour guides employed by lodges in and around the park. These operators will be the sole providers of transportation for visitors between the Sossusvlei 2x4 parking area and the Deadvlei 4x4 parking area.
The ministry emphasized that lodge-employed tour guides must be registered with the Namibia Tourism Board (NTB) and are restricted to transporting only their own clients. The notice clearly warned that no other operators will be allowed to offer shuttle services to the Deadvlei access point.
Additionally, the notice stated that all visitors intending to visit Deadvlei will need to use the authorised shuttle services, as self-driving beyond the 2x4 parking area will no longer be allowed for tourists. This initiative aims to enhance the management of tourist flow and preserve the natural environment of the iconic Deadvlei.
