Mutwa to be laid to rest at Mahundu village

Former Namibian Defence Force (NDF) chief, Retired Lieutenant General John Mutwa has been conferred a state funeral and will be laid to rest at Mahundu Village in the Zambezi Region on Thursday.

A media statement by the Ministry of Information, Communication and Technology, said Mutwa’s memorial service will be held on Wednesday at his home village Mahundu, where the proceedings will be streamed live on the ministry’s page.

‘The state funeral of the Late Lt. Gen. (rtd) John Sinvula Mutwa will be conducted under strict compliance with the Public Health COVID-19 General Regulations on public gatherings,’ reads the statement.

Mutwa died at the age of 60 on 17 June 2021 in the Katima Mulilo State Hospital after a short illness.

Mutwa, who was appointed as the fifth Chief of NDF by former president Hifikepunye Pohamba in 2013, retired from the position in 2020.

He is survived by a wife and three daughters.
