Windhoek: Speaker of the National Assembly, Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, underscored the importance of enhancing Namibia-China cooperation during a visit by a Chinese parliamentary delegation on Wednesday. The discussion focused on fostering mutual development and economic growth between the two nations.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the Chinese delegation, led by Vice Chairperson of the National Committee of the China People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Zhu Yongxin, included members of China's Communist Party and parliament and the ambassador of China to Namibia, Zhao Weiping. The official visit aims to bolster bilateral relations and cooperation between Namibia and China.
In a conversation with Nampa, Kuugongelwa-Amadhila expressed Namibia's intent to build on its longstanding relationship with China to promote mutual prosperity. This visit follows discussions with the Namibian Presidency, including meetings with Vice President Lucia Witbooi and the National Council.
"The exchange aims to strengthen cooperation between our two countries and our peoples, and to ensure that we work together in promoting peace and stability globally," said Kuugongelwa-Amadhila. She emphasized that multilateral cooperation is crucial amid global challenges affecting prosperity.
The Speaker also remarked on China's rapid development as a model Namibia can emulate, especially in technology and industrial sectors to enhance the value of natural resources. "China is the only country that has achieved such a level of development within a relatively short period, and this presents valuable lessons for Namibia as we seek to accelerate our own growth," she stated.
Kuugongelwa-Amadhila highlighted the significance of expanding trade and investment opportunities, suggesting that cooperation could offer Namibia alternative export markets and reduce dependence on a limited number of trading partners. She also advocated for people-to-people engagement and inclusive investment involving Namibian and Chinese businesses and individuals, noting that such collaborations could strengthen ties and create more opportunities for shared development.
