Namibia should embrace investors: Tweya

The Kavango West Regional Investment Conference is currently underway at Nkurenkuru where possible investors and captains of industry are gathered to unlock the regions investment opportunities.

The one-day event brought high-level policymakers, government agencies, and funding institutions to discuss ways to accelerate the economic development of the region through investments.

In her welcoming remarks, Kavango West Regional Governor, Sirkka Ausku said countries, regions, and towns develop through investment and the Kavango West region has identified sectors to invest, highlighted in its investment portfolio booklet.

She said the region has identified sectors highlighted in its investment booklet noting that the region has placed upliftment initiatives for the region as well as uplifting the socio-economic status of the region which includes the well being of the people.

An investment booklet was also launched at the official opening of the conference, which contains viable economic sectors the investors can invest in.

While the Minister of Industrialisation, Trade and SME Development, Tjekero Tweya in his statement applauded the regional leadership for the initiative.

The Minister described the initiative as a breakthrough thinking since it is one of the newly established regions and by the same token, the least developed one.

Kavango-West Region is one of our newly established regions and by the same token, the least developed one. However, this region has enormous potential in agribusiness development because of its strategic geographical location and natural resource endowment, he said.

The minister said the theme and focus of the conference mirrors well with what his ministry is working to achieve for Namibia, and that the ministry is happy to be associated with investments, industrialization, trade, and enterprise development to contribute in making Kavango-West, the role-model region in terms of industrialization, trade, and SME development.

The conference is being held under the theme invest in Kavango West Region.

The event will be followed by a gala dinner in the evening were a regional development fund will be launched by the Minister of Agriculture, Water and Forestry, John Mutorwa who is the patron of the fund.

The fund is a brainchild of the regional governor aimed at assisting the needy, as well as to look after tertiary fees of hardworking students from the region
