Namibian under-15 girls’ football team lost 0-9 to Mexico

WINDHOEK: The Namibian Under-15 girls’ football team lost 0-9 to Mexico in their opening match of the 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games (YOG) underway in Nanjing, China.

In November 2012, a decision was taken by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for the Namibia Football Association (NFA)’s girls’ U-15 team to be the sole representatives of the continent at the Games, taking place from 16 to 28 August.

Mexico scored four goals in the first half, and five in the second half.

Namibia’s next game will be against hosts China on Wednesday at 02h45 local time.

The girls are part of 30 Namibian athletes competing in the Games.

The athletes are between 15 and 18-years-old, and will partake in girls’ football, swimming, tennis, athletics, beach volleyball, gymnastics, archery and cycling.
