NamPol officer arrested for shooting two people at Kairaira village

A police officer (31) from the Kavango West Region was arrested here on Friday for shooting two people including a police officer.

The incident happened at Nakazaza Combined School at Kairaira village about 02h00 the Kavango West investigations coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Rudolf Mbumba told Nampa on Sunday.

According to Mbumba the police officers involved in the matter were deployed to work at Nakazaza Combined School by the Electoral Commission of Namibia for the supplementary registration of voters.

It is still not clear what caused the incident.

Mbumba said both men (victims) sustained serious injuries and are in a critical condition before stating that the suspect used an AKM submachine gun to shoot them.

The suspect was arrested on the same day and will appear in the Rundu Magistrate Court on Monday.

Investigations into the matter continue.
