Windhoek: NamPower, through its bursary scheme, awarded bursaries to 15 students who will pursue studies in priority fields critical to Namibia's industrialisation and energy transition.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the fields of study include accounting, law, renewable energy, data science, oil and gas, mechatronics, and electrical and mechanical engineering. NamPower Managing Director, Kahenge Simson Haulofu, handed over the bursaries in the capital, emphasizing that these fields were chosen based on the company's evolving skills needs as it prepares for future technological and energy-sector demands.

Haulofu noted that the recipients were selected from 787 applications received nationwide for the 2026 bursary intake. The selection process was rigorous, considering academic performance, financial need, understanding of the relevant field, and the circumstances of applicants living with disabilities, marginalised groups, and female candidates. The students will be supported for the duration of their studies.

"The NamPower Bursary Scheme, now in its 26th year, has been actively involved in supporting hundreds of Namibians, many of whom have gone on to hold key professional and leadership roles in the energy sector and beyond. The programme is a cornerstone of NamPower's contribution to national development and inclusivity," Haulofu stated.

He encouraged the students to excel academically, emphasising that the opportunity comes with responsibility. "Having done our part, we expect you to study diligently and strive for excellence. NamPower will continue to invest in skills development to ensure the successful delivery of our mandate, which is to maintain the security of electricity supply," Haulofu added.
