Katima mulilo: The Katima Mulilo Town Council (KMTC) has issued a warning to residents and motorists regarding deteriorating road conditions caused by ongoing heavy rainfall.

According to Namibia Press Agency, KMTC Head of Public Relations, Muyoba Muyoba, stated in a media release that the continuous downpours have resulted in widespread potholes, surface erosion, and waterlogged sections across the town's road network. Muyoba highlighted the potential dangers posed by these conditions, urging motorists to exercise caution.

'Motorists are strongly advised to treat every pool of water on the road as a potential pothole. What may appear to be a shallow puddle could conceal deep damage to the road surface, posing serious risks to vehicles and road safety,' Muyoba stated.

The town council has advised motorists to reduce their speed, maintain a safe following distance, and avoid driving through standing water when possible. There is an emphasis on exercising extreme caution, especially at night in poorly lit areas. Additionally, motorists are reminded to be vigilant of pedestrians and cyclists as the technical department evaluates the affected zones.

Muyoba emphasized that repair work will be conducted as weather permits, acknowledging that the ongoing rainfall might delay immediate interventions.

'Road safety is a shared responsibility. We appeal to all road users to cooperate and prioritize safety. The town council appreciates the community's patience and understanding as we work to address these issues,' Muyoba concluded.
