Pretoria: President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah is on a one-day working visit to neighbouring South Africa this Friday, where she will hold talks with President Cyril Ramaphosa. It is her first official visit to South Africa since her inauguration as president in March 2025.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the presidency released a statement indicating that the two heads of state will explore avenues for deepening and expanding bilateral relations in economic sectors such as agriculture, financial services, tourism, and mining. Namibia and South Africa enjoy strong and mutually beneficial economic relations, with South Africa ranking as Namibia's largest trading partner and the country with the largest number of foreign companies operating in Namibia.

The statement further highlighted that Namibia is among the leading investors in the South African economy, demonstrating the depth of economic ties between the two nations. Namibia and South Africa are members of the Southern African Customs Union (SACU), which plays a pivotal role in fostering regional economic integration and industrial development. Namibia is expected to host the SACU Summit in Windhoek on 27 June 2025.

In 2012, Namibia and South Africa elevated their bilateral cooperation mechanism by transforming the Heads of State Economic Forum into a bi-national commission. Since its establishment, the commission has served as a critical platform for high-level dialogue, coordination of economic and foreign policy positions, including the implementation of joint programmes across a broad range of sectors. South Africa and Namibia have ongoing agreements in more than 150 areas.
