Okahandja: The Namibia Command and Staff College (NCSC) of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF) celebrated Zambia's 60th Independence Anniversary on Tuesday at Okahandja in the Otjozondjupa Region. The NCSC is an academic institution responsible for training senior military officers in the NDF. Since its establishment in 2009, the college has long been a home for student officers from the Republic of Zambia. This year, the NCSC is hosting Major James Meja and Captain Grace Bwalya as allied students from Zambia in the Junior Division, while the two Lieutenant Colonels, Bright Makasa and Bibian Matandiko are enrolled in the Senior Division.Speaking at the occasion, NCSC Commandant, Brigadier General Bernhard Nathinge Erastus highlighted the importance of the event and said the unifying slogan 'One Zambia, One Nation' resonated throughout Zambia in 1964 under the leadership of Dr Kenneth Kaunda, who was the country's first president.'It is well known that while you can choose a friend, you cannot choose a neig hbour. However, our country is fortunate to be both a neighbour and a friend to Zambia,' explained Erastus. He added that Zambia's independence day cannot go unnoticed by the college management and for this reason, they dedicated a class period on Tuesday to celebrate this achievement. The NCSC was established in recognition of the need for advanced academic training for its officers as it depended on friendly nations such as Zambia, Botswana, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Kenya, Nigeria and Ghana. It was launched by then Minister of Defence Charles Namoloh on 10 August 2009 and inaugurated by the late President Hage Geingob on 17 October 2017.Source: The Namibia Press Agency
