Sangwali: Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare has lauded the prevailing unity and peace in the Zambezi Region, following a historic gathering of different tribal authority chiefs at the Mayeyi Annual Cultural Festival known as 'Batsara' in Sangwali on Sunday. Ngurare emphasised that this newfound unity is reshaping the region.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the gathering not only served their subjects but also fulfilled the clarion call from President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah for a united nation. In a first for the region, Mayeyi Chief Shikati Boniface Lutibezi Shufu hosted Munitenge Moraliswani III of the Masubia Traditional Authority, represented by Senior Traditional Councillor Albius Milinga Kamwi. Also in attendance were Fumu (Chief) Joseph Tembwe Mayuni of the Mashi Traditional Authority and Litunga (Chief) George Simasiku Mamili of the Mafwe Traditional Authority.

The prime minister also commended Governor Dorothy Kabula and former governors for their service to the region, specifically highlighting Lawrence Alufea Sampofu. Ngurare praised Sampofu as 'a polished former combatant and one of the celebrated commanders of the People's Liberation Army of Namibia.' He said Sampofu, who is from the Mayeyi Community, was a full colonel in the Namibia Defence Force when former President Hifikepunye Pohamba appointed him as governor in 2010.

As the keynote speaker at the festival, which showcases the region's cultures through music, dance, art, traditional crafts, and local food, Ngurare affirmed the government's commitment to supporting all Namibians, saying they are central to the transformative development agenda outlined in the Swapo Party Election Manifesto. Ngurare added that 'a new wind of hope is blowing across the Zambezi Region. It is like a modern telegram of unity being transmitted to the present and future generations.'
