Rehoboth: The Northside Primary School was officially inaugurated on Thursday in Rehoboth in the Hardap region. The school, located in the Kavukiland informal settlement, has been operating since January 2025. Initially, it shared premises with Rehoboth Primary School before moving to its own facilities in August, which were inaugurated on Thursday.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the inauguration ceremony was attended by the Hardap Governor, Riaan McNab; the Regional Director of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture (MEIYSAC), Paulus Lewin; and the Deputy Executive Director of Finance and Administration in MEIYSAC, Knox Imbuwa, alongside learners, teachers, parents, and members of the Rehoboth community.

In a speech read on her behalf, Minister Sanet Steenkamp highlighted the urgency behind the establishment of the school, saying that it was built to address the shortage of learning spaces resulting from Rehoboth's rapid expansion, particularly with the development of the two suburbs, Kavukiland and Volstruisvlakte, in recent years.

'The Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture responded positively to the Hardap Regional Directorate's request to assist the region to construct a school in this particular area in order to address the shortage of school spaces for learners due to the exponential expansion of the town of Rehoboth, which saw the establishment of two new suburbs, namely Kavukiland and Volstruisvlakte,' she stated.

She further noted that phase one of the project was completed at a cost of N.dollars 7.41 million. Phase two, currently underway, is being implemented at an additional cost of N.dollar 5.2 million and includes four new classrooms, an administrative block, a library, a computer lab, a science laboratory, and an ablution block.

The school currently accommodates 195 learners from Grades 0 to 3, with 10 classrooms and two toilet blocks. Future development plans include additional classrooms, an administration block, a library, a computer lab, a science laboratory, and improved sanitation facilities for senior learners.
