Nurse arrested for possession of suspected stolen pharmaceutical products

A 29-year-old nurse from Odimbwa clinic in the Omusati Region's Etayi Constituency is arrested after he was found in possession of huge quantity of suspected stolen pharmaceutical products at the Namibia-Angola border on Wednesday.

Inspector Linekela Shikongo of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Community Affairs office in the region confirmed the arrest to Nampa on Thursday, saying the suspect was arrested at the border village of Oikokola around 14h00.

Police have it that the suspect has been employed at Odimbwa clinic since 2015. The suspect was intending to cross into the Republic of Angola with the products without any authorisation or permit through ungazetted point of entry, stated Shikongo, adding that the products were found in his bag during a Police search.

According to Shikongo, Police officials have recovered the products and are all kept at the Onandjaba NamPol station in the Omusati Region's Okalongo Constituency.

The value of the products, Shikongo said, was not determined and Police investigations on the ground were still ongoing as of Thursday afternoon.

The suspect is anticipated to appear in the Outapi Magistrate's court on Friday.
