Ohangwena: Ohangwena Governor Kadiva Hamutumwa on Monday handed over a newly constructed house to a resident of Oshandi village in the Ondobe Constituency. The house was given to Lucia Petrus through the Office of the Governor and the Cash for Work Programme, an initiative focused on creating employment opportunities while addressing urgent social needs in rural communities.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Hamutumwa mentioned that this intervention aligns with national development priorities aimed at promoting inclusive growth and reducing poverty in rural areas. "This intervention is fully aligned with the priorities of the sixth National Development Plan and the broader objectives of the Government of the Republic of Namibia. It speaks directly to our national commitment to inclusive development, poverty reduction, and ensuring that vulnerable members of society, particularly in rural areas, are not left behind," she said.
Hamutumwa elaborated that the initiative is part of government efforts to enhance social protection and promote economic empowerment at the community level. "This initiative further advances government efforts in strengthening social protection, especially for persons living with disabilities, while also contributing to job creation and local economic empowerment through the Cash for Work Programme. In doing so, we are building resilient communities and promoting access to safe and adequate housing for all Namibians," she stated.
Lucia Petrus, who lives with a disability, had been left without proper shelter after the roof of her home was destroyed during heavy rains in 2023, forcing her to rely on neighbors for accommodation. She expressed gratitude for the assistance.
