Gobabis:Omaheke The Chairperson of the Omaheke Regional Council, Rocco Nguvauva, has urged farmers and residents in the region to follow the government's control measures in response to the Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) outbreak in the //Kharas region.

According to Namibia Press Agency , these measures have been introduced by the Ministry of Agriculture and are part of the National FMD Contingency Plan, aligned with the Animal Health Act, Act No.1 of 2011. The measures include a nationwide suspension of movement, marketing, and trade of all cloven-hoofed animals and their raw products. Additionally, the export, import, and transit of these animals and products are also halted.

The slaughtering of cloven-hoofed animals at export and local abattoirs, informal markets, and during social events is prohibited until further notice. This action is part of the government's effort to contain the outbreak effectively.

Meanwhile, Frederick Takulu Ueitele, spokesperson for the Municipality of Gobabis, emphasized the importance of compliance, warning that non-compliance could lead to the confiscation and destruction of meat products. Abattoirs, butcheries, supermarkets, general dealers, kapana operators, and food processors are specifically urged to adhere to these regulations.
