Oshana police nabs two suspects for alleged cattle theft

The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Oshana Region on Tuesday intercepted and arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged theft of 12 stolen heads of cattle, with a combined value of N.dollars 96 000 at Oshakati.

NamPol in a crime report availed on Thursday said the suspects who are Namibian males, aged 40 and 44 were also charged for unlawfully and intentionally bribing the police officers on duty with N.dollars 4000 in cash.

It said the cattle are suspected to have been smuggled into the country from Angola, with no ear tags and stock brands.

“The suspects only furnished suspicious documents from Angola not Namibian documentation to prove ownership,” the report stated.

The incident took place at Uupindi location and Onanime village, Oshakati, at around 09h07. The suspects are detained at the Oshakati holding cells.

Meanwhile, a case of housebreaking of business premise and theft has been opened in Ongwediva, after suspected thieves allegedly gained entry to the Mzuzu Energy LTD office and stole items valued at N.dollars 17 100 on Wednesday.

The incident happened between 13h00 and 15h30 and the items stolen include laptops, laptops bags, tablets and a cellphone.

The suspect is not known at this stage and no arrest was made.

Police investigations in both matters continue.
