Oshikoto: A high-level stakeholder engagement meeting by the Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology (MICT) Oshikoto Regional Office has resolved to strengthen multi-stakeholder partnerships to accelerate digital inclusion. The one-day meeting held on Monday further resolved to improve ICT service delivery and enhance public access to government information across the region. The meeting forms part of MICT's broader drive to deliver responsive governance and bridge the digital divide in Oshikoto through concrete collaboration and action.According to Namibia Press Agency, senior information officer at the MICT Oshikoto Regional Office, Josephina Mwashindange, said the meeting marked a renewed commitment to positioning the regional office as the vital link between government and citizens in Omuthiya. "The MICT regional office is responsible for providing government information, promoting access to information, supporting ICT development, and advancing digital inclusion across rural and urban co mmunities. We also manage and support ICT centres in the region," she explained.Mwashindange emphasised that the full implementation of the Access to Information Act remains a priority, saying it seeks to promote transparency and accountability by enabling citizens to request government information while compelling institutions to communicate proactively. To decentralise services, Government Information Centres (GICs) will be strengthened to bring information and digital services closer to the people.Key resolutions and strategic objectives emerging from the meeting include raising awareness of MICT's mandate and services, ensuring compliance with the Access to Information Act, forging stronger stakeholder partnerships, identifying and closing ICT service gaps, driving digital transformation and innovation, and promoting accountability through transparent communication, she said. "Together, we can strengthen ICT development, improve access to information, and build a more informed and connected Oshikoto R egion," Mwashindange said.Oshikoto MICT media officer Humbuhumbu Ngava called for closer media-government cooperation to ensure effective public communication. He appealed for early venue access, adequate camera space, ready access to interviewees, timely updates on programme changes, and technical support during events. Ngava noted that regional MICT offices function as the voice and ears of the government at the local level. They support regional governors and offices in disseminating key national messages, including the State of the Nation Address and presidential speeches.
