PRESIDENT CALLS FOR UNITY AMONG NAMIBIANS

WINDHOEK-- Namibian President Hage Geingob, who will open the second National Land Conference here Monday, has urged Namibians to participate in it fully in the Harambee spirit of working together and the principle of "One Namibia, One Nation".

The conference will take place in Windhoek from Monday to Friday under the theme, "Towards a comprehensive and sustainable land reform in Namibia".

The president said in a media statement issued Sunday: "We cannot have inequality, land dispossession and sit with our hands folded. All of us must dialogue with one another, find solutions as Namibians and act with urgency."

The statement said the second National Land Conference will review progress and identify new challenges in the implementation of the resolutions of the 1991 Land Conference.

It will further seek to achieve the strategic goals of the government's Harambee Prosperity Plan covering the fie years to 2020.

Geingob also said the conference should do it the Namibian way with sensitivity, far-sightedness and sustainability in mind.

A number of political parties, traditional authorities and pressure groups have annpunced that they will boycott the conference, citing exclusion and lack of consultation, among other reasons.
