Rehoboth: The re-opening of Reho-Spa in Rehoboth has been postponed again after inspections revealed a second pool leakage, despite the completion of a N.dollars 7 million government-funded renovation project. The town's mayor, Jacky Khariseb, informed Nampa on Wednesday that the facility was scheduled to open to the public on Friday but will now remain closed following inspections that revealed the problem.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the government invested N.dollars 7 million in the renovation of the facility, which is managed by the Rehoboth Town Council. Phase one of the project, funded with N.dollars 2 million, included the construction of a swimming pool, cleaning of the surrounding area, a play park, and break facilities. Phase two was later approved with an additional N.dollars 5 million for the renovation of bungalows and the administration office.
Khariseb explained that the pool leakage had been identified before and resurfaced during a subsequent inspection. He noted that this is the second leakage after inspection, as the pool had the same problem during the first inspection. The contractor is currently working on resolving the issue.
The Hardap governor, who was present during the inspection, will also be involved in further inspections before the facility is opened. Hardap Governor, Riaan McNab, was with them during the first inspection and will also be involved during further inspections before the spa is officially opened.
Khariseb stated that the council had intended to open the facility to the public after renovation work was completed but would not do so until the defect was resolved. He emphasized that renovations are done, and the council would have loved for the spa to be open to the public. However, failure to repair the leakage in time would result in a further delay.
Reho-Spa was transferred from Namibia Wildlife Resorts to the Rehoboth Town Council in 2014 and has remained closed during the renovation period.
