SKW Win Men, Women’s Tennis Leagues

SKW won both the men and women’s tennis first leagues which recently came to an end in Windhoek.

This time all the matches were played at the Central Tennis Club (CTC) in Olympia. The tennis league was played in two male and one women’s division.

Besides CTC, teams from Sports Klub Windhoek (SKW), DTS, Police Tennis Club and Unam participated.

The First League Men’s division consisted mostly of young top Namibian players and professional coaches whereas the second league and the women’s division were dominated by social players. The winner of the Men’s 1st league was SKW, while they also won the Women’s first league.

The winner of the 2nd Division is the CTC Team A. With six teams CTC contributed most teams to the 2014 league.

Fielding one team in the men’s First Division and four teams (A, B, C and CTC-OTB) in the second men division and one women’s team, the Central Tennis Club as in previous years contributed the most players to the competition.

The other teams in the second division were composed of Unam and SKW players. CTC club president Lucky Gawanab was happy about the large number of players contesting the club competition.

“Especially in the second league it is not about winning but all about camaraderie and social interaction after the exhausting matches” he said.
