Badakhshan: Heavy snowfall and freezing weather have claimed three lives in northern Afghanistan’s Badakhshan province, a local official confirmed Saturday. The tragic incident unfolded in Nawabad village of the Raghistan district on Friday afternoon, where three children traveling to another village succumbed to the severe weather conditions on the spot.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Hekmatullah Mohammadi, the Provincial Director for Information and Culture, shared that the harsh weather conditions have also led to road blockades in several provinces. Notably, the Salang Pass, a crucial highway that links the national capital Kabul to nine northern provinces and further to Central Asian states, has been affected.

Badakhshan province is no stranger to severe cold and heavy snowfall during this time of year, presenting significant challenges for its inhabitants. The annual harsh weather conditions often disrupt daily life and pose risks to the local population.
