Otjiwarongo: The Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Esperance Luvindao, on Monday officially handed over 15,000 newly procured uniforms for state medical doctors and nurses across the country during an event at the Otjiwarongo State Hospital.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the procurement of the uniforms was initiated in March 2025, with the August 26 Manufacturing Company selected to produce them at a cost of approximately N.dollars 56 million. This marks the first time since 2014 that the government, through the Ministry of Health and Social Services, has provided new uniforms to these healthcare workers.

Dr Luvindao highlighted that while the colors of the new uniforms remain unchanged - white coats for medical doctors and navy blue and white for nurses, complemented by black shoes for both genders - the initiative symbolizes the ministry's dedication to restoring professional dignity, visibility, and pride among health workers.

Selma Muhenye, a registered nurse at Otjiwarongo State Hospital, expressed gratitude on behalf of healthcare workers nationwide, highlighting the importance of the uniforms in serving as identification for patients. "Thank you for the new uniforms. As nurses and doctors, we will wear our new uniforms and contribute towards service delivery to the public with patriotism," she stated.

Otjozondjupa Regional Health Director, Gebhardo Timoteus, pointed out that these uniforms are typically distributed to healthcare workers at no cost. He noted that the Otjozondjupa region alone has a total of 780 nurses and doctors who will benefit from this initiative.
