Swapo Party members in the Otjozondjupa Region on Sunday elected Imms Namaseb as their new regional political party coordinator.

The 59-year-old Namaseb obtained 34 votes out of the 66 votes cast at the internal regional elective conference which took place at Otjiwarongo.

Namaseb replaces Susan Hikopua, who was the Otjozondjupa Regional Swapo Party coordinator since 2012.

The conference also elected Elizabeth Shinana as the information, publicist and mobilisation officer, while Patrick Xoagub retained his position as treasurer.

The three top regional leaders are expected to serve their party for a period of five years.

Hilda Jesaja, Marlayn Mbakera, Clive Kavendjii and James Uerikua were also elected by their regional conference on Sunday to the party congress, which is planned for November this year, where they will contest along with other regional representatives who wish to serve in Swapo’s highest decision-making organ.

The conference on Sunday also elected 10 delegates – five female and five male – to the congress.

They are Siipora Kamati, Elizabeth Shinana, Renathe Swartbooi, Theresia Kukenge, Gustafine Nganjone, Patrick Xoagub, Collin Ngujapeua, Kxami Gqao, Alfeus Kamati and Alfred Kasemba.

All seven political regional districts of Okahandja, Okakarara, Otjiwarongo, Otavi, Grootfontein, Omatako and Tsumkwe were represented at the conference.
