Kavango west: The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Kavango West Region have reported three separate road accidents over two days, which have claimed four lives and left several others injured.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the first incident occurred on Monday at 18h02 near Nepara village in the Mpungu Constituency, when a pickup truck allegedly overturned while attempting to overtake another vehicle. NamPol Kavango West's Chief Inspector Raimbert Muronga confirmed the three incidents to Nampa on Tuesday, saying the driver, 31-year-old Oiva Kandjimi, was travelling from Nkurenkuru to Ncauncau village with 12 passengers when he lost control of the vehicle.
Two occupants died, identified as 24-year-old Markus Hausiku Mpepo, who died at the scene, and one-year-old Maria Mpepo, who died upon arrival at the hospital. Eleven others sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious, including the driver and passengers aged between six and 31 years, from various locations in the region.
Hours later on Monday, at 20h00, a 41-year-old licensed driver of a sedan allegedly struck and killed a pedestrian identified as 32-year-old Kaetan Sivaku, near Kayeura village in the Musese Constituency. The driver was travelling from Rundu to Mbambamusi village when the accident occurred on the B10 road.
A day earlier, on Sunday at 17h00, another pedestrian fatality occurred when a minibus struck 76-year-old Martha Nkenga Kanyetu near Gcwagi village, also in the Musese Constituency. The driver, an adult male from the Oshana Region, was travelling on the B10 road when the incident happened.
The next of kin of all the deceased have been informed of their deaths. Police investigations continue.
