Windhoek: Three male suspects aged 25, 33, and 34 were arrested on Monday afternoon shortly after they allegedly robbed two tourists at a hotel in Otjiwarongo in the Otjozondjupa Region. Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Head of Community Affairs in the Otjozondjupa Region, Senior Inspector Maureen Mbeha, told Nampa on Monday that the three suspects are believed to be from Windhoek in the Khomas Region.

According to Namibia Press Agency, preliminary police investigations indicate that shortly after the tourists, a 59-year-old man and his 53-year-old wife, entered the hotel's parking area, a grey sedan pulled up next to their vehicle. 'The suspects allegedly forced their way into the tourists' vehicle and grabbed bags containing money, cameras, chargers, passports, and other valuables,' Mbeha said.

The suspects then allegedly sped off along Langstraat before leaving Otjiwarongo in the direction of Kalkfeld. Mbeha said the police were alerted and mobile roadblocks were set up along the Kalkfeld road. The suspects' vehicle was subsequently intercepted and the three men arrested.

All the stolen items, including US$800 in cash, were recovered from the vehicle. The suspects are expected to appear in the Otjiwarongo Magistrate's Court on Tuesday. Their vehicle was also impounded at the Otjiwarongo Police Station pending further investigations.

Mbeha said the tourists entered Namibia from the United States of America on 05 September and were traveling from Etosha on Monday when the incident occurred. Police investigations into the matter continue.
