Windhoek: The United Democratic Front (UDF) has set a new record by competing in 19 regional constituencies and 21 local authorities for the upcoming Regional Council and Local Authorities elections on 26 November. The party had previously contested 15 constituencies in the 2020 elections. UDF's national spokesperson, Mabasen Narib, informed Nampa on Tuesday that the party aims to expand its presence in the Erongo, Kunene, Otjozondjupa, and Khomas regions.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Narib stated that this will be the first time in UDF's history to contest in 19 constituencies. The party has already initiated door-to-door campaigns, voter education through civic programs, and is utilising social media to engage with voters. UDF seeks to retain its stronghold areas such as Sesfontein, Khorixas, Daures, and Karibib, while aiming to reclaim Kamanjab and add other constituencies to solidify its position among Namibia's strongest political parties.

Narib confirmed that UDF will contest in various constituencies including Okahandja, Sesfontein, Kamanjab, Outjo, Windhoek Rural, Khomasdal, Windhoek East, Katutura Central and East, Khorixas, Daures, Arandis, Omaruru, Tsumeb, Otjiwarongo, Walvis Bay Rural, Swakopmund, and Otavi. The party will also participate in local authorities in Witvlei, Uis, Rehoboth, and Usakos. He mentioned that the campaigns are being finalised and will conclude with a rally.

The party plans to provide voter education to ensure that the electorate understands voting procedures and election processes. Narib emphasised that civic education is a crucial responsibility of the party to ensure adequate voter awareness. He expressed confidence that UDF will succeed on 26 November, aiming to increase their representation in regional council and local authority governance, and regain full control of the Kunene region where they have held dominance for the past five years.

Currently, UDF controls four constituencies, two each in the Erongo and Kunene regions.
