Windhoek: Trustco United climbed to third place in the Namibia Rugby Union (NRU) Premier League standings after an impressive 29-15 victory over Grootfontein at the weekend. The match was evenly contested in the first half, with both sides locked in a fierce battle. United opened the scoring through Thehard Lintvelt, who also converted to give the hosts an early advantage. Grootfontein responded 10 minutes later with a converted try to level the scores before flanker Eloff du Plessis crossed for another try for the visitors. Although the conversion attempt was unsuccessful, Grootfontein moved into a 12-7 lead.According to Namibia Press Agency, United hit back through Ben Burger, who scored a crucial try. However, Lintvelt failed to convert, leaving the scores level at 12-12. Grootfontein regained the lead shortly afterwards when Franklin Busch slotted a penalty to edge his side ahead. The visitors took a narrow 15-12 lead into the half-time break.United emerged from the interval with renewed intensity and dominated proceedings in the second half. Their resurgence was rewarded when substitute Johan Brockman crossed for the hosts' third try of the match, although the conversion attempt was again unsuccessful. As the match entered its closing stages, United continued to apply pressure. Lintvelt scored his second try of the afternoon after capitalising on impressive work by Suramie Kambombo. Despite missing the conversion, United extended their lead to 22-15.The hosts sealed the result in the dying minutes when Jurgen Meyer powered over for another try. This time, Lintvelt added the conversion to complete a convincing 29-15 victory. The win saw United move above Kudus into third place on the standings with 23 points. Kudus slipped to fourth on 21 points after five matches.At the Jan Wilken Stadium in Walvis Bay, Kudus produced a dominant display to thrash Reho Falcon 73-5 on Saturday. Meanwhile, in Rehoboth, the home side secured only their second victory of the season with a 35-26 win over UNAM. The result li fted Rehoboth to 10 points, although they remained seventh on the standings. UNAM occupy fifth place with 12 points.League leaders Wanderers continued their impressive campaign with a commanding 66-7 victory over Khomasdal-based Western Suburbs. The emphatic win kept Wanderers at the top of the standings on 30 points, while Suburbs remain rooted to the bottom of the table with just one point.
