Wanderers closes in on log leaders United

Wanderers Rugby Club are just within a point of their arch-rival Trusco United after they defeated them 35-24 on Friday night during their Namibia Rugby Premier League clash.

The two outfits met at the Trusco United Park the home of United rugby club who currently lead the log with 42 points.

United who were humiliated by UNAM a week ago with a 52-15 scoreline once again failed to get back to winning ways when they clashed with Wanderers who outclassed them on the night.

In the first half it took 30 minutes for the two teams to open the scoring as United's, Winmar Rust open the scoring with a penalty.

With Rust penalty Wanderers regrouped themselves and Nandi Karuuombe scored the first try of the game in the 35th minute and BradonGroenewald made no mistake on the spot as Wanderers took the lead in the match.

Wanderers lead was cut short just minutes before the half time break when Hanreco van Zyl ran in United's first try of the match which Rust converted.

The half-time score was 10-7 in favour of the home team United.

In the second half Wanderers came out the hungrier side running in four tries through ElmarcoBeukes (two), Stefan Hattingh (one) and Ethan Beukes (one).

ElmarcoBeukes scored two conversions while Groenewald also score two.

United who were mostly dominated throughout the second half only managed to run in two tries through JandreLampbrecht and substitute AmutenyaAmutenya. Rust converted both the tries.

After scoring more than four tries Wanderers won themselves a bonus point and collected five points from that match which puts them levelled on 41 points with UNAM on the log standing.

Both Wanderers and UNAM are now having a match in hand on United and whoever wins that match will go to the top of the log standing.

Wanders and Unam will face each next weeks, after their first leg encounter was postponed till 27 July. They two teams will once again play each other a week later in their second leg match.
