Namibia’s Young Warriors chances of making the quarterfinals are hanging in the balance following their 2-0 against Tunisia in their second Group B match at the ongoing U/20 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Mauritania on Thursday night.

Namibia made two changes to the last team out with Promise Gurirab and Denzil Narib naming way for fit again captain Steven Damaseb Junior in midfield as well as defender Tuli-Baggio Nashixua.

Damaseb Junior joined the offence with the like of Giovanni Kaninab, Edmar Kamatuka and Prins Tjiueza.

Tjiueza, despite carrying a knock on the knee, started off bright for Namibia as he tried to make things happen but it was to be .

Damaseb Junior was unlucky to saw his shot wide of the far post after he was set up by Kaninab midway the first half while Kamatuka too came close to opening the scoring but missed the target.

To compound matters for the Young Warriors, Penouua Kandjii was forced off with an injury on 25 minutes.

Tunisia then got the lead through Marc Lamti’s header from a corner kick, the lead they held until the break.

Minutes after the restart, Hassan Ayari make it 2-0 for Tunisia.

Namibia started off with a one-all draw against Central African Republic and will not have to pull out all the stops on Sunday, 21 February when they meet Burkina Faso for the final Group game.

Burkina Faso were due to face Central African Republic later on Thursday night as the fight for the last eight teams of the 2021 CAF U20 African Cup of Nations intensify.

Nam vs Tunisia: Ruhaka Ngatangue, Ngazike Kandetu, Davids Tuhafeni, Kandjii Penouua, Tuli-Baggio Nashixua, Karuuombe Tjipenandjambi, Tjiueza Prins, Steven Damaseb Junior, Kamatuka Edmar, Juninho Jantze and Kaninab Giovanni.
