20 Top Taxis and Counting

Johannes Gamab has been driving a taxi for 10 years and still wakes up every morning happy to hit the streets and move Windhoek.

“I enjoy being on the roads because I drive safely and obey the rules. That way I don’t have to worry about fines or getting stressed out on the roads,” says the taxi driver.

Top Taxi is a Kosmos Radio initiative and is made possible through the assistance of the Windhoek City Police, Standard Bank, Shoprite, NMC and The Namibian newspaper.

Every week an upstanding taxi driver is selected by the public and awarded with a Standard Bank account loaded with N$3 000 and an assortment of prizes including a Bible, an Auto Armour car care kit and a first aid kit.

When asked how he intends to spend his winnings, Gamab answers: “I’m planning to spoil my kids a bit, get them some new shoes and then with the rest I’ll get some feed, salt lick and those kinds of things for my livestock”.

Top Taxi winners are announced live on Kosmos Radio every Friday morning. The radio broadcast takes place on the Kosmos Radio promotional balcony where the winning driver is treated to a hearty breakfast prepared by the Namibian Chefs Association using Shoprite and Checkers’ delicious Champion Boerewors.

The competition is still open for taxi drivers in the capital. All you have to do is get an entry form out of a copy of The Namibian newspaper. Fill it in and drop it off at Shoprite in Windhoek’s CBD or at the Lafrenz Money Market outlet.
