Kabul: The Afghan interim government's Ministry of Industry and Commerce is contemplating conducting trade transactions with Russia using local currencies, specifically the afghani and ruble. This initiative was revealed by Akhundzada Abdul Salam Jawad, the ministry's spokesman.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the use of local currencies in trade was a focal point during discussions at the Kazan Forum. The talks are ongoing, and a final decision is expected after thoroughly considering the interests of the Afghan population. Jawad noted that the aim is to weigh the potential benefits and challenges before reaching a conclusion.

Abdul Nasir Reshtia, an economic expert, shared insights with the state-owned Radio and Television of Afghanistan (RTA), suggesting that such transactions could help stabilize Afghanistan's national currency. The move is seen as a potential strategy to bolster the country's economic independence and resilience.
