Omaheke: In an effort to support farming and small businesses, the Omaheke Regional Council (ORC) has allocated N$350 000 towards agricultural shows and expos. This was revealed by Council Chairperson, Rocco Nguvauva, at the official opening of the Epukiro Business and Agricultural Expo at the Omaueuozonjanda settlement on Friday.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Nguvauva stated that the ORC understands the significance of these events across the region. The allocated funds are divided equally among the seven constituencies, with each receiving N$50 000. He highlighted the vital role farmers play in feeding the nation, creating jobs, and preserving culture and land.
Nguvauva emphasized that supporting farming is synonymous with supporting families and the local economy. He noted that by enabling people to sell products, money circulates in towns and villages, providing growth opportunities for small businesses.
The chairperson also urged young people to learn from successful farmers and business owners, encouraging them to work hard and achieve success. He pointed out that events like the expo serve as platforms for farmers and business owners to learn new techniques and strategies.
Nguvauva stressed that the council's financial commitment is an investment in people, food security, and the future of Omaheke. He highlighted the presence of service providers such as banking institutions at the expo, urging them to offer their services permanently in Epukiro, where land availability is not an issue.
He informed farmers about the Agriculture Ministry's expression of interest for purchasing hand machinery at subsidized prices. Nguvauva encouraged farmers to approach the line ministry or regional council offices to collect application forms and take advantage of the opportunity.
