Fireworks are expected this weekend at the Independence Stadium in Windhoek when Athletics Namibia (AN) hosts its Senior National Championships on Friday and Saturday.

The 2022 Senior National Championships will see 230 athletes from 10 regions competing for top honours.

In an interview with Nampa on Thursday, AN president, Erwin Naimhwaka, said preparations for the championships are going well and they are ready to go.

“We will have exciting duels at these championships in several events. We have 10 regions that have confirmed participation, with 230 athletes expected to participate,” he said.

He added that sensational sprinters Christine Mboma and Beatrice Masilingi will, unfortunately, not be setting the track ablaze as they have travelled out of the country.

In an interview with Nampa on Wednesday, University of Namibia Athletics Club, 400-metre (m) 200m and 100m sprinter, Mahmad Bock, told this agency that people should expect fireworks Friday night when athletes will compete in the 400m sprint.

“The 400m sprint on Friday will be exciting and I can’t wait for the competition as all the sprinters have prepared well, which will make it an interesting race to watch,” he said.

Friday’s activities will start at 17h00, while on Saturday the events will start at 09h00.
