The Capricorn Group in collaboration with the Namibia Heart Foundation (NHF) on Friday held its third annual heart health event, raising over N.dollars 50 000.

The ‘Heart of Gold’ fundraiser breakfast was held to raise awareness about heart disease and provide support to those affected by it.

Cardiovascular diseases are common in Namibia, accounting for up to 30 per cent of all deaths in the country.

Capricorn Group in a press release on Monday said, this year’s fundraiser was focused on bringing together health professionals, practitioners and service providers in the health industry, as well as potential donors, to raise funds for the NHF and raise awareness of heart disease and strokes in the country.

Event guest speaker Pamela Naidoo, Chief Executive Officer of the South African Heart and Stroke Foundation and president of the African Heart Network, stated that the panel of medical professionals on stage provided valuable information on heart diseases and sufferers.

According to Naidoo in an interview with Nampa Monday, the burden of cardiovascular disease (heart disease and stroke) is extremely high on the African continent, including South Africa and Namibia, and it is therefore critical for the NHF to collaborate with professional societies and the national department of health to improve health outcomes of all Namibians.

“The fundraiser event included not only discussions and talks, but also an engaging, interactive experience for all guests via a lifestyle fair featuring key health players such as NHP, Virgin Active, Zumba, Lilies Smoothies, and Biokinetics. The Namibia Heart Foundation will benefit from all event proceeds,” she stated.

Capricorn Group Executive for Brand and Corporate Affairs, Marlize Horn, on her part said: “Because heart health affects all of us, whether directly or indirectly, the event aims to reflect a spirit of unity and collaboration. Let us join hands and help the heart foundation raise more funds, which will result in more success stories for others who rely on them for assistance,” she said.

The Namibia Heart Foundation was established in March 2019 to educate Namibians on various heart-related illnesses and to supplement the work of those who have dedicated their time and effort to raising awareness of heart disease and their associated risks in order to prevent heart-related illnesses.
