Beijing: China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) is seeking public input on a proposal to establish mandatory national standards for mobile power sources, including portable power banks. This move comes as the industry has experienced rapid growth, accompanied by safety concerns that pose risks to consumer safety and property.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the mandatory standards aim to mitigate accident risks by outlining specific safety protection measures, battery requirements, material specifications, and key production processes. The plan also targets the elimination of substandard products and the phasing out of low-quality capacity within the industry.
The proposed regulations will address fundamental requirements such as product labeling and protections against overcharging, over-discharging, and short circuits. Additionally, there will be specific requirements for lithium-ion batteries, focusing on overcharging, crushing, thermal abuse, and puncture tests.
