COVID-19: Namibia records 120 new cases

Health and Social Services Minister, Dr Kalumbi Shangula has announced that Namibia on Monday recorded 120 new COVID-19 cases and no new deaths.

In the COVID-19 update on Tuesday, Shangula said the new cases represented a 6.5 per cent positivity ratio, with a gender distribution of 65 females and 55 males between the ages of one and 91 years.

The Ohangwena Region recorded the highest number of cases at 63, followed by Omusati with 22 cases, Oshana 11, Oshikoto and Hardap recorded seven cases each, Khomas five, Erongo three cases and Kunene recorded two cases.

The health minister noted that the new confirmed cases include 64 learners and three teachers.

Of the confirmed cases five were reported to have received one dose of the vaccine, while two received two doses.

Active cases on Monday stood at 1 199, of which 93 were hospitalised, with 18 in intensive care units.

Furthermore, 35 new recoveries were announced, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 122 788.

By Monday, the number of confirmed cases in the country stood at 127 493, while 3 494 people have succumbed to the virus.

A cumulative 261 269 people had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by Monday, while 176 848 had been fully vaccinated.
