The Kunene Football League executive has hailed the just-concluded transitional league as a success amidst the COVID-19 pandemic that continues to cause major upsets in the world of sports.

KFL chairperson Marshall Gomeb in a statement issued Tuesday said he was pleased to present the league report for the just concluded KFL Transitional League over the past weekend in Outjo, where Kunene NamPol were declared league champions.

“It was a positive season and I have enjoyed being part of this dynamic team,” Gomeb said.

He stated that during the first phase, the league management successfully addressed the shortcomings, including transport costs for teams, and tried its best to improve on the administrative and technical aspects of how to run the league, adding that they have listened to the needs of their members this season and therefore shall equally pay out league prizes to all 12 teams for the first time.

“The executive committee also allocated travelling allowances [away] to teams’ participation in the league competition. It is not a lot, but it is another clear sign that KFL is moving in the right direction; towards increasingly stable improvement on the technical and administrative front,” said Gomeb.

Opuwo-based outfit Kunene NamPol football team dominated the league this season, emerging as the overall league champions and raking in N.dollars 15 000 while second-placed Pubs Football Club pocketed N.dollars 8 000.

Khaibasen FC received N.dollars 6 000 for finishing third while fourth-placed Etosha United took home N.dollars 5 000.

Sixty Eleven FC pocketed N.dollars 1 000 for their basement residency along with Revengers, and TST Gasriseb Orlando FC.

The top goal scorer award went to Innocent Huseb of Pubs FC and Stanley Karosab of Sixty Eleven sharing the spoils with five goals each. Benny Gaeseb of Outjo Football Academy claimed the golden glove award after a massive five clean sheets from six games.
