COVID-19: Namibia records seven new cases

Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Kalumbi Shangula, announced that Namibia on Sunday recorded seven new COVID-19 cases and no deaths.

In an update issued Monday, Shangula said the new cases are part of 1 107 tested samples, representing a 0.6 per cent positivity ratio and had a gender distribution of six males and one female aged between 26 and 63 years.

The new cases were recorded in Khomas Region with six while ||Kharas recorded one case.

Of the confirmed cases is one student and two cases have received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine while the rest are not vaccinated.

Namibia on Sunday had 115 active cases, of which 13 were hospitalised and one person is admitted to an intensive care unit.

Four new recoveries were recorded, bringing the total number of recoveries to 125 487.

The minister also reported that a cumulative 365 856 people had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine of which 79 759 had received the single dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine, while 227 219 people had received two doses. A total of 306 978 people had therefore completed their vaccination.

The total COVID-19 related deaths remain at 3 573.
