Windhoek: The Presidential and National Assembly Elections have officially commenced, with eligible voters forming lines at polling stations nationwide to exercise their democratic rights.According to Namibia Press Agency, over 1.3 million individuals have registered to vote across 121 constituencies throughout the country. Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) chairperson, Elsie Nghikembua, was among the early voters at the MTC polling station in Olympia, Windhoek. She emphasized her early arrival was due to her commission responsibilities, allowing her to observe the opening procedures firsthand.Nghikembua remarked on the efficiency, stating, "Voting has started on time and it is a very smooth process. It takes up to a maximum of two minutes from the time you do the verification up to the time that you vote." Her comments highlighted the streamlined nature of the voting process designed to handle the large number of registered voters.The Governor of the Khomas Region, Laura McLeod-Katjirua, also atten ded the MTC polling station early on Wednesday. She expressed satisfaction with the proceedings, noting, "The voting process is smooth and quick, the officials are very helpful. I can't complain, I feel proud, I feel happy, I feel Namibian."Polling stations are operational from 07h00 to 21h00. However, voters who are already in line by 21h00 will still be allowed to cast their votes beyond the official closing time, ensuring that everyone present before the cut-off has the opportunity to participate in the election.
