Swakopmund: Erongo Governor Neville Andre Itope has emphasized the crucial role of elections in strengthening democracy and determining Namibia's future. In a statement following his vote in Swakopmund, Itope highlighted that voting is not just a right but a civic responsibility for all citizens.According to Namibia Press Agency, Governor Itope underscored the importance of this electoral moment, stating, "Voting is about making a statement on what we want for the next five years, addressing the issues we face, and ensuring that our voices are reflected in the development plans of the region." He stressed the need for inclusivity and urged employers to permit their workers to participate in the elections, emphasizing, "It's crucial that everyone exercises their right to vote, and does so peacefully."The governor expressed satisfaction with the ongoing election process, noting its significance in shaping both regional and national futures. He observed, "It is very helpful to see that people from different backgrounds, including senior citizens and the youth, are actively participating. The queues reflect the enthusiasm of our people, and this is a good sign that citizens are eager to make their voices heard."Meanwhile, presiding officers at various polling stations in the coastal town reported that the process began as scheduled, albeit with some minor issues. At the Platz Am Meer Mall, presiding officer Solastika Hausiku reported a malfunction with the verification machine, necessitating manual voter verification. Despite this, efforts are being made to accommodate all voters, as Hausiku noted, "We have one of the longest queues at this station so we are pushing to serve everyone seeing as we are a fixed station."In the Erongo Region, over 250 polling stations are operational, with more than 151,000 registered voters anticipated to participate in the elections.
