Five suicides recorded over the weekend

The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) recorded five suicides over the weekend.

This was revealed by a crime report issued by NamPol’s spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, on Sunday.

In the first of the five cases, 33-year-old Gift Likunga Simataa, a Namibian male allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself with a plastic rope in his traditional house at Muketela village in the Zambezi Region on Saturday.

No suicide note was found and his next of kin have been informed of his death.

In Ncaute village in the Kavango West Region, 52-year-old Hamba David Sindimba, also a Namibian male, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself with a wire in his sleeping room on the same day.

The report adds that the deceased had a physical altercation with his older brother a day prior to the alleged suicide.

The next of kin have been informed of his death.

Another suicide was reported at Farm Zamenkomst in the //Kharas Region, where it is alleged that 75-year-old Mathys LA Grange, a Namibian male, was found hanging on a cross pole of the kraal with a rope around his neck by the farm owner on Saturday.

“A 9mm pistol and a magazine loaded with five rounds were found in the deceased trousers’ pocket but not used. A suicide note dated 05.01.2023 was found in the deceased’s room,” the report said.

In Windhoek at Eehambo ya Nehale Informal area on Saturday, it is alleged that a man, believed to be an Angolan national, allegedly hanged himself with a rope.

No suicide note was found and the name of the deceased was not revealed.

In the Ohangwena Region, another suicide by hanging was recorded at Omundudu village on Saturday, where the body of 66-year-old Toivo Shihepo, a Namibian male, was found in his sleeping room.

No foul play is suspected and no suicide note was found at the scene.

Police investigations in all cases continue.
