Windhoek: Founding President Sam Nujoma voted at the Andries De Wet Point B polling station in the Windhoek East Constituency on Wednesday. Nujoma, 95, cast his vote at exactly 09h39. The former Head of State was accompanied by his wife, Kovambo Nujoma, and his son Utoni Nujoma. At the polling station, Nujoma and his entourage were received by the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) Chairperson, Elsie Nghikembua.According to Namibia Press Agency, Utoni Nujoma expressed his satisfaction with the voting process, stating, "I have done it. It is my democratic right to vote for my party." He emphasized the importance of citizens participating in the democratic process peacefully and choosing their candidates. "We must build a peaceful democratic Namibia. We don't want violence. We must talk to each other and solve our problems through things like these elections," he added.Health Minister Kalumbi Shangula also commented on the election, noting the large turnout of Namibians exercising their right to vote. He highlighted the contrast with the colonial era when such participation was restricted. "It is quite pleasing," Shangula remarked, pointing out the long queue at the polling station. He encouraged potential voters not to miss the opportunity, which occurs every five years, urging them to make the most of it.The Khomas Region, with 10 constituencies, boasts the most voters among the 14 regions of the country. Approximately 287,107 voters have registered to vote in the Presidential and National Assembly elections in Khomas.
