Mariental: Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) presiding and returning officers at polling stations in Mariental are using various strategies to address minor issues encountered during the voting process. At the Danie Joubert Hostel Hall, presiding officer Marcelino Gertze told Nampa most voters are the elderly or youth and they thus implemented a zigzag queuing system, alternating between three elderly and three youngsters to vote. This approach, he said, maintains order and speeds up the process.According to Namibia Press Agency, at the Persianer Community Hall, presiding officer Makena Charmine Katzao noted that the main challenge is confusion among the elderly voters regarding the distinction between Presidential and National Assembly ballot papers. Katzao said polling officers therefore take time to explain the process to these voters, which slows down the queues. Both officers confirmed that aside from these issues, voting has been proceeding without major disruptions. These strategies will be in pl ace until polling stations close at 21h00 this evening.
