Guinas: The Guinas Constituency by-election is underway, with nine teams on duty at five fixed and four mobile polling stations. The Electoral Commission of Namibia's (ECN) regional electoral officer for Oshikoto, Ester Hipangelwa, confirmed in an interview with Nampa that voting commenced as scheduled at 07h00 on Friday.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Hipangelwa noted that the polling venues are seeing significant attendance, reflecting the community's keen interest in participating in the electoral process. This by-election was necessitated by the passing of the former Guinas Constituency Councillor, Elias Marthinu Kainda of Swapo, in October 2024. Competing for the position are Swapo's Moses Khumub and Fransiskus Khumub of the Landless People's Movement.

Hipangelwa mentioned that some residents from Tsumeb attempted to vote but were informed that only eligible voters from the Guinas Constituency could participate. She added that the voting process is expedited, taking just two to three minutes per voter, thanks to the use of two tablets at each station.

Geelbooi Tameb, a traditional authority leader of the //Oai khoen (San) community at Tsintsabis, expressed his satisfaction at being able to vote. The 75-year-old Tameb arrived at the Tsintsabis Combined School polling station at 06h00. He stated that he voted because he desires change for the people of the Guinas settlement, highlighting the need for local shops to prevent residents from having to travel to Tsumeb for groceries.
