Mosul: The Iraqi government has assumed control of a building under the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) in Mosul, marking a significant step in the mission's gradual wind-down, which is set to conclude by the end of 2025. This transition is part of a broader agreement between Iraq and the United Nations, as revealed by Iraqi government spokesman Basim al-Awadi.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the ongoing process involves the scheduled transfer of all remaining UNAMI buildings to Iraqi authorities. This development follows the UN Security Council's decision in May 2024 to extend the mission's mandate for a final period of 19 months, with an end date of December 31, 2025. After this date, the mission will fully cease its operations.

The UN political mission, established in 2003 by the Security Council at Iraq's request following a U.S.-led invasion, has been pivotal in offering advice, support, and assistance to the Iraqi government and its citizens in numerous areas.
