Pretoria: The Kalkfeld community in the Otjiwarongo Constituency received a newly purchased ambulance donated by the Namibian Ports Authority (NamPort), a development expected to improve access to emergency healthcare services in the settlement. Chairperson of the Otjozondjupa Regional Council, Paulus Nekundi, officially handed it over to the community and thanked NamPort for the donation.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Nekundi noted that the Gam settlement in the Tsumkwe Constituency also received a similar ambulance, which will be delivered to the community by him next week. "The two ambulances were requested by community members themselves in writing during October 2025," he said.
Nekundi also handed over a newly purchased maternity delivery bed and a firefighting machine, which was bought by the Otjozondjupa Regional Council for the Kalkfeld community. The donations were received by Kalkfeld clinic's registered nurse and head of the clinic, Cornelia Malukolo, on behalf of the Ministry of Health and Social Services and the community.
"We are truly grateful as the Kalkfeld community, and on behalf of the nurses. We pledge to continue providing quality healthcare services to the people of this settlement," she said.
Otjozondjupa Health Director Gebhardo Timotheus stated that the ambulance will be used exclusively to transport patients from Kalkfeld to Otjiwarongo District Hospital and, when necessary, to Windhoek on a referral basis. "Any misuse of the ambulance should be reported to the relevant authorities, and the matter will be dealt with accordingly," Timotheus said.
The Kalkfeld community, including residents of surrounding farms, has a population of more than 5,000 people.
