Pretoria: Sikosinyana Senior Secondary School principal, Harris Tuombale, announced that funds secured for the institution by its new patron, Ruthy Masake, will be used to renovate the school's dilapidated infrastructure, particularly the hostel.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the school management, in consultation with the directorate, has agreed to execute the renovations during the August school holidays. The school is situated in the Zambezi Region's Sibbinda Constituency.

The principal revealed that discussions are underway with the Zambezi Vocational Training Centre to carry out construction work addressing persistent sewerage issues at the hostel, along with plumbing, roofing, and weakened wooden support structures. 'The work will be done during the two-week August school holiday. We are expecting the N.dollars 300 000 to reflect in the school account this week,' Tuombale stated.

In June this year, during an official welcome ceremony, school patron and Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform, Ruthy Masake, announced the securing of a N.dollars 300 000 donation from the Embassy of the People's Republic of China for hostel renovations. Masake, introduced as patron in April, expressed gratitude to the Chinese government and people for their contribution, highlighting the donation as an investment in the future success of students.

Masake, a former learner at the school, emphasized the importance of providing students with a safe and conducive learning environment and encouraged the school community to strive for academic excellence.

Tuombale noted the current strain on the school's hostel facilities, which accommodate 246 learners, exceeding the official capacity of 192. The school has an enrolment of 450 learners, with 200 students renting accommodation in nearby villages, posing challenges in managing discipline and academic progress.

Established in 1981, Sikosinyana serves as a senior secondary transition point for several schools in the circuit, including Kaenda, Kasheshe, Kanono, Lusu, Kaliyangile, Sachinga, and Sibbinda.
